USMLE Website Instructions

Computer-based Case Simulations

**We encourage each examinee to practice as much as possible to allow time to ask questions prior to the assessment date. If you have difficulty accessing the practice cases, please contact us for assistance.

1. Go to www.usmle.org
2. Under "Examinations," click on "Step 3."
3. Under "Orientation/Practice," click on "Learn More."
4. Click on "2010 USMLE Orientation & Practice Materials."
5. Under "Step 3," click on "Primum Computer-Based Case Simulations (CCS) - Tutorial and Practice Cases."
   1. You will not access the multiple choice questions, only the actual practice cases.
6. A dialogue box will open, prompting you to open, save or cancel. Select "Save," and save the file to your desktop.
7. The Install Shield Wizard will install the program by running through a series of steps and creating a shortcut on your desktop.
   1. Click on "Next" on the "Welcome" page.
   2. Click on the "Complete" radio button on the "Setup Type" page.
   3. Click "Next."
   4. Click "Finish."
8. A "2010 USMLE CBT Practice" folder will appear on your desktop.
   1. When you are ready to begin the CCS Tutorial or the Sample Cases, go to your desktop and click on the "USMLE CBT Practice" folder.
9. To begin the actual practice cases, click on "NBME Test Delivery."
   1. Please choose the "CCS Overview" and then begin the five (5) specific cases.
   2. This is not a multiple choice test.
   3. You will have actual cases that you write orders for and diagnose your patient at the end of each case.
